Our class had a very exciting week! We had color crew on Monday, A band concert on Wednesday, and a Suzuki concert on Thursday.
We recently did our pre assessment, which is about geometry, and angles. And we also did our post assessment from the unit we just did. Then we started our geometry and angles unit. We learned our benchmark angles, which are, 30 degrees, 60 degrees, 90 degrees, 120 degrees, and 150 degrees. After that we learned how to measure angles with a protractor. We we just finished up our unit on light. Our last experiment that we did was make some light mazes. In the light mazes we had cardboard walls and mirrors inside, then we would shine a flashlight through the maze, and try to get the light to travel to the end of the maze by bouncing off of the mirrors. All of the fourth grade classes split up into topics. Mr. Howe’s topic is how technology is changing our world, Ms.Michael’s room is doing a United Nations meet about climate change, Mrs. Forrests room is doing endangered animals, and Ms. Bierbower room is also doing endangered animals. We each filled out a form that told the teachers which topic we would prefer to work on, and we got put in classrooms depending on which topics we prefered. Now, we are working on our topics. We have started an author study, Roald Dahl! The books that we had to choose from are The BFG, George’s Marvelous Medicine, James And The Giant Peach, Matilda, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, Boy, and Fantastic MR. Fox. We got to pick the book that we wanted to do, we read the book, and we answer the questions. We are still working on our literary essays. Our essays are about either the character Fox, or Magpie. We picked one character trait that we thought belonged to that character that we chose, and wrote an essay about that. This week our color crew, went outside onto the field and around the playground, and picked up trash. There were special kids who would carry the trash bags, and the trash cans. Now outside our school looks spotless! This week we had a band concert. Only fourth and fifth graders played in the concert but it was mostly fourth graders. The instruments that they played were, trumpet, corenet (kind of like a small trumpet), claranet, and one Jiwoo played the saxophone. This week, second through fifth graders had their Suzuki concert. They were amazing! Some of the songs that they played were, Hot Cross Buns, Disco Twinkle (Twinkle Twinkle Little Star), Perpetual Motion, and Allegro.
